First exhibition in a row of exhibitions and fairs. The past months have been very quiet and now all the excitement is compacted in a few weeks, with several overlaps. But this is such an exhilarating feeling to show my work that I do not mind the hustle and juggle. And it is definitely a step into feeling like a “real” artist and admitting that this is real.
Exhibitions are an interesting transition; they help to get detached from the work. Once the piece is up on the gallery wall or art fair booth, it is already not completely yours anymore. There could be goodbye forever and it would be ok. Feedback is also thought-provoking. I have been very lucky so far. People have been kind and critiques minor (the paper is buckling…, which I know and will explore further how to fix for good). A sale would be a plus of course but for now, it is first and foremost about going public, getting my name and myself out there and meeting my audience (public? Buyers? Not sure how to call my future collectors 😊). Not that easy as an introvert, especially after those long months of confinement and social distancing. But I hope I will warm up and that speaking about “my art” will eventually become more fluid. The fun fact is that I can easily speak about the work of an artist I love or admire. But when it comes to speaking about one’s own work, those beautiful sentences turn into pompous preaching. Or so it feels at least. I guess that practice makes perfect, as with everything.
